Some horses acclimatise to being on box rest better than others, so it is important to provide them with the support they need for the change of diet and routine.
Horses on box rest will have restricted movement which can have adverse effects on the rate and efficiency of digestion, therefore prebiotics and probiotics have been added to aid the healthy microbial populations within the horse's large intestines. Whilst on box rest the horse’s environment may have limited air flow and may be dusty, Liquorice has many benefits and will not only aid the respiratory system but also gastrointestinal wellbeing. Electrolytes are vital for keeping the horse hydrated but are also essential for correct muscle and nerve function to help the horse on the road to recovery. They are also beneficial if electrolytes and fluid have been lost as a result of diarrhoea. Two types of Magnesium combined with other calming ingredients such as Lemon balm, L-Tyrosine and Chamomile will help to encourage more relaxed behaviour and reduce nervous tension in your horse whilst adapting to changes in their daily routine. Finally, Micronised linseed and Linseed oil contain natural, plant-based Omega-3 to support overall health.
