Historically, in the spring horses and ponies would search out new growth of spring herbs to eat, which help to restore and support body systems which may have been stressed during the harsh winter weather. These spring herbs are known for the tonic properties that help to cleanse and condition the horses body systems. Veteranaid is a herbal based product containing seven tonic herbs all of which have been associated with supporting the lymphatic, circulatory and immune systems, which in older or vulnerable horses can need a helping hand to stay healthy.
Milk Thistle Seeds contain the active component Silymarin, which is well-known for its liver-supporting properties. This is aided by Dandelion, promoting the urinary tract and the kidneys, and keeping the lymphatic system healthy. The lymphatic system is also helped by the addition of Clivers, which help to keep fluid moving through the body. This is particularly important for older horses, as they become less mobile they move around less, and fluid accumulation in lower limbs becomes more common. Circulatory aid and general tonic plant Nettle is combined with Burdock root, which helps with various systems in the body, including the respiratory and cardio-vascular system, and acts as an all-round detox.
Echinacea root helps to stimulate the immune system and further aid the effect of the other herbs added. The final herb in Veteranaid is Ginkgo, helpful for the circulatory system but most commonly known for its ability to optimise mental processing and therefore memory, a quality every owner would like their horse to develop further.
Veteranaid can be fed alongside other supplements long term and is particularly beneficial for the older horse, however, it can be fed to horses of all ages as a general tonic and “pick-me-up”.
