With the very hot weather the grass is now very short. My horse had sand colic some years ago and a regular course of psyllium husks helps eradicate any sand he may have eaten.

Does the job, currently on very sandy soil and not worth the risk of sand colic. Only wish there was an option for a refill bag, currently only available in a tub.

Worked well and my mare's droppings have returned to normal.  We have recently moved to a yard where the soil is very sandy and she was showing signs of sand colic.

Used it for years and only use the Feedmark psyllium.  It works really well and gets rid of sand almost instantly - highly recommended

Nutrition Information

Psyllium Husks have been used traditionally in humans, and are a recognised management option for horses with sand burdens. As a soluble fibre source Psyllium Husks form a gel-like substance when exposed to water. The water absorbing properties of Psyllium means it acts as a hydroscopic sponge, allowing it to pick up and aid the removal of unwanted foreign material (such as sand and indigestible roughage) from the folds and bends of the digestive tract.

Composition

Psyllium husks (Planago ovata)

Analytical

Crude protein 3.1%, Crude oils & fats 0.8%, Crude fibre 4.8%, Crude ash 2.6%, Sodium 0.07%

Why do Psyllium Husks need to be fed dry?

Psyllium is a solubule fibre source, which forms a gel-like substance when exposed to water. The water absorbing properties of Psyllium enable it to act as a hydroscopic sponge, surrounding and removing unwanted foreign material (sand, toxins and indigestible roughage) from the folds and bends of the digestive tract.

Can I feed Psyllium Husks if I feed a soaked feed?

You can add Psyllium Husks to a soaked feed, however add them near to the time you will be feeding your horse. This is because Psyllium Husks absorb water and form a gel-like substance and we want this process to happen once the horse has ingested the Psyllium Husks, and not happen in their bowl.
