Lucy Richards Discusses the Very Talented Eventer, Obie

About Obie...

Wicklow Into Orbit (Obie): 2014 17.3hh ISH OBOS Quality 004 X Ricardo Z chestnut gelding.

Obie has a really lovable character in the stable and has a very trainable and level head, although as with many good horses he isn't without his quirks!

Goals and achievements...

Since August 2019 I have produced Obie steadily. Last year he jumped a total of seven double clears and produced many top ten results including at Burnham in the CCI-L2*. He finished his season with third place in his first intermediate, aged 6, and has been selected for the Junior European Development Squad for 2021.

This year he will start out at intermediate and then step up to 3*S at Burnham Market. His main aims this year are the Junior Europeans held in Sweden and 7-year-old classes, but I'd love to get him out doing some British Showjumping and Dressage. He is currently training at Advanced Medium level.

I believe he will be one of my first 5* rides so that's definitely an aim for a few years’ time and I'd hope to do some young rider Europeans, young horse championships and hopefully senior teams too.

Nutritional support...

Being so large and young, Obie has very individual nutritional needs which are met by his Feedmark supplements.

He has a Bespoke All-In-One™ supplement containing Best-Flex HA™ and Rosehips to support his joints, EquiDermis™ to help promote healthy skin, and Ultimate Ease™ to support his gut which is particularly important when he is out competing.

We feed him Muscle Fuel™ after he has worked to support his young growing muscles. We also add Condition and Shine™ when he needs help maintaining weight and Replenish™ if he has sweated a lot to provide those important electrolytes.

Since moving Obie onto his Bespoke All-In-One™ I have noticed he has more energy and doesn't tire as quickly during his work. It is reassuring to know that all of his nutritional needs are met so that he can perform to the best of his ability.
